About the JPG to PNG Converter
This JPG to PNG converter runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. When you select a JPG/JPEG file, the tool reads it locally, draws it onto a canvas at its original resolution, and exports the result as a PNG blob. PNG is a lossless format, so no quality setting is needed. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
When to use JPG vs PNG?
- JPG is best for photographs and natural images with smooth gradients. It uses lossy compression and produces much smaller files, but does not support transparency.
- PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges, text, logos, or any image that needs transparency. It uses lossless compression.
- Converting JPG → PNG won't improve image quality — the compression artifacts already baked into the JPG are permanent — but it lets you edit and re-save the image without any further loss.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drag and drop one or more JPG/JPEG files onto the drop zone above, or click to browse.
- Click Convert to PNG. Each converted image will appear with its own download button.
- Click Download PNG on any result to save the converted file.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool upload my images? No. All processing happens locally in your browser using Canvas.
Can I convert multiple JPGs at once? Yes, the input supports batch selection and the tool will produce a separate PNG for each file.
Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality? No. JPG is a lossy format, so any detail already lost stays lost. Converting to PNG just prevents further degradation when you edit and re-save.
Does the resulting PNG support transparency? Yes. PNG supports transparency, so once converted you can open the file in an image editor and add transparent regions. The original JPG has no transparency, so the converted PNG starts fully opaque.
Why is the PNG file larger than the JPG? PNG uses lossless compression, which preserves every pixel exactly. JPG's lossy compression discards data to shrink the file, so the lossless PNG is typically larger.
Is there a file size limit? The only limit is your browser's available memory. Very large images may take a few seconds.
